Romeo and Juliet in Eisenach: A visit to the theatre

On Friday, 19 October 2018 form ten, eleven and twelve visited the theatre in Eisenach to see “Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare presented by TNT Britain and ADG Europe. We met at quarter past three at the train station and by quarter to eight we arrived back in Gotha.

The play itself was performed in the original language which is English and lasted for one and a half hours. It is set in Verona and it tells a story about a long feud between the Montague and Capulet families. This feud causes tragic results for the main characters in the play, Romeo and Juliet who fall in love with each other. All in all the play was very nice to watch but sometimes a little hard to follow due to the rather outdated English language used. Nevertheless we were able to understand all scenes and follow the plot since we had dealt with Romeo and Juliet in our German lessons. It is always interesting to see how this play is performed in different ways. The scenery was simple but effective because it felt as if the audience was actually in Verona but it wasn’t too distracting. Not only did we enjoy the play itself, Eisenach’s theatre won us over with its familiar and charming atmosphere. After all this play was definitely worth watching.
