Saturday, 5th May was the day our class had eagerly awaited. We met in front of our gym to be picked up by a coach which took us to Leipzig Airport. Our plane to London took off at 10.20 pm.

At 11 pm (local time) we safely arrived at London Stansted.

After a 45- minutes- ride on the Stansted Express to Liverpool Street Station we got on a Central Line train to Queensway. Having arrived at the Lords Hotel, we immediately fell into our beds to be fit for the next days.

On Sunday after breakfast we took the Tube to Camden Town.. The area hosts street markets and music venues which are closely connected with alternative culture. We spent three hours there and enjoyed the beautiful weather. Afterwards we visited the Olympic Park in Stratford and went shopping at the Westfield Shopping Centre. In the evening – after having dinner on our own – we all watched “Who wants to be a millionaire?” in the lobby.

The first destination on Monday was the Tower of London. We explored the Tower’s amazing story as a fortress, a palace and a prison and of course we had a look at the Crown Jewels.

In the afternoon we went to Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus (including M&M’s World), Trafalgar Square and Covent Garden where we watched the numerous street artists.

On Tuesday morning we walked through Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens before we stepped into the spotlight at Madame Tussauds to get closer to more than 300 wax figures. After lunch we crossed Green Park to Buckingham Palace to find out whether the Queen is at home or not. Actually, she was. We were not too tired so we strolled along Oxford Street to spend some time there.

The next day before breakfast some of us went jogging in Hyde Park together with Mrs Jänsch to be fit for the day. The first highlight was a visit to the London Dungeon to experience 1000 years of London’s perilous past. Right afterwards we enjoyed an exciting ride on the London Eye having a breathtaking view over the city. Later we went to Camden Market again to get some more souvenirs. In the evening we ‘had the time of our life‘ at the Novello Theatre. We can say Mamma Mia is one of the best feel-good musicals in London.

After having packed our luggage we went to St. Paul’s Cathedral by underground on our last day.

We walked across the Millennium Bridge and visited the Tate Modern Art Gallery.

Then it was time to say goodbye to this wonderful city.

Our plane took off at 7.15 pm and we arrived in Leipzig at 10 pm local time.

The bus driver was already waiting at the airport so that we arrived in Gotha at 12.30 am.

All in all, we had a great study trip with beautiful weather on all days.

We are really grateful to have had the opportunity to get to know this world-famous metropolis.
